Yeast Experiment

As part of the third grade science curriculum, my students studied ecology. To reinforce their knowledge of a decomposer’s role in the food chain, they did an experiment using yeast. The experiment was composed of 2 sets of bananas: one set with yeast and one set without yeast. The students followed the experiment instructions, then recorded their observations each day. The experiment and observations pages the students used are pictured here. There is also a photo showing some students making observations and recording data.
