Spanish Videos*

The best way to learn a new language is to practice and use it in real contexts. These two videos* show off the students’ talents in speaking and singing Spanish.

The first video* is a story my third grade students wrote based on the book, El Loro Tico Tango, which is a Spanish book about a very greedy parrot. In the story, the parrot steals all the food from the other animals of the jungle. Before long, there is too much food for him to carry and he drops it all. While the other animals are eating, he begs for some of their food. They finally decide that they will share with the parrot if he does the Tango for them.
The students adapted the story and substituted the name of our principal, Señor Lester, for the parrot. They changed the other animals´ names into names of the teachers at our school, and decided on different foods for the ladrón , or thief, to steal. They illustrated a printed copy of the book, which stayed in the class library, created props, rehearsed the story, then performed it for the principal and their parents.

The second video* is the students singing the song, ¿Que Tiempo Hace Hoy? They learned this song as a culminating activity for their weather unit.
