Motivation and Management

I believe that students learn best when:
  • They spend their time in a positive, safe environment that allows them to make mistakes and experiment with new ideas
  • They are in charge of their learning and responsible for making decisions about what, when, and how to study their world
  • They are asking questions and solving problems that are relevant and meaningful to their lives
  • There is a balance between structure and individual freedom in their environment
The best management comes from an interesting, engaging curriculum.
I believe in positive reinforcement and recognition of desired behaviors.
Gentle reminders are usually all that is needed. Requests with a please are best.
Students deserve an explanation for why you are asking them to do something.
Always address issues privately to preserve the students’ dignity.
End each conference on a positive note and with a compliment.
